About Ted Oshman
Owner and Principal Attorney of The Oshman Firm
Ted Oshman, who also practices professionally as Theodore Oshman, is a veteran trial attorney and legal strategist with more than 40 years of experience representing individuals harmed by corporate negligence, defective products, and medical malpractice. He serves as the owner and principal attorney of The Oshman Firm, a nationally active plaintiff litigation practice based in New Jersey and New York City. Since beginning his legal career in 1984 and assuming firm ownership in 1985, he has secured over $500 million in recoveries for clients facing complex mass tort and catastrophic injury matters. His work has consistently centered on careful case preparation and long-term client advocacy.
Academic and Professional Education
His academic background began with an undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Rochester. This scientific education provided a practical framework for understanding medical records, pharmaceutical research, and environmental data that later became central to his legal work. He went on to earn a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School, where he focused on litigation, legal analysis, and trial preparation. To expand his professional perspective beyond traditional legal training, he completed additional coursework at the New York University School of Professional Studies. He is admitted to practice law in New York and New Jersey and has represented clients across the United States.
Entry Into Legal Practice
Ted Oshman began practicing law with The Oshman Firm and its predecessor entities in 1984. From the earliest stages of his career, his practice concentrated on representing individuals harmed by negligence, defective products, unsafe pharmaceuticals, environmental contamination, and medical errors. These early cases helped shape the direction of his work and reinforced the importance of thorough investigation and responsible advocacy. In 1985, he assumed ownership of The Oshman Firm, a role he has held for more than four decades, while remaining actively involved in litigation strategy and client communication.
Litigation Focus and Leadership Roles
Under his leadership, the firm developed experience in environmental litigation, medical malpractice, pharmaceutical and medical device litigation, and personal injury law. The Oshman Firm has been appointed as lead counsel or co-lead counsel in numerous mass tort litigations involving large groups of claimants. He has also served in court-designated leadership roles, including liaison counsel and positions on Plaintiffs’ Steering Committees in Multi-County Litigations involving drug product liability and medical device claims. These roles required coordination with multiple firms and oversight of complex procedural matters. In 2019, the firm was recognized as “Best Lawyers Best Law Firms” by U.S. News & World Report.
Case Results and Client Recoveries
Throughout his legal career, he has helped recover more than $500 million for clients across all practice areas. These results include both individual claims and mass tort actions involving thousands of injured parties. Significant outcomes include over $55 million recovered in the Roundup litigation and more than $40 million obtained in the transvaginal mesh litigation. In medical malpractice litigation, he has secured substantial recoveries in cases involving permanent injury and long-term care needs. One notable matter resulted in a $42 million cash payment and a structured annuity following a failure to adequately monitor labor progress.
Business Involvement and Personal Life
Beyond legal practice, Ted Oshman serves as Principal Owner of Naliboki Enterprises, LLC, a venture capital and private equity investment entity based in Florida. He is also President of Sonaro Realty Corp., former Chief Executive Officer of NeoVC, and Chairperson of eMatrix Energy Systems, Inc. Alongside his professional responsibilities, he remains committed to philanthropy and values time with his wife, Anne, and their three children, maintaining a balanced approach to career and family life.
